Biggest Upsets of 2012 (#9): Louisville 33 Florida 23

Written by Kevin on .

If this game had taken place in the regular season instead of bowl season it would have been a bit higher on the list of upsets. Bowl season can be a strange time and sometimes upsets don't feel like they have as big of an impact. That being said, Florida was a clear favorite in this game as Vegas had them favored by 14 points.

Biggest Upsets of 2012 (#10): San Diego St 21 Boise St 19

Written by Kevin on .

This Boise State team wasn't on the same level as the teams of the last few years starring Kellen Moore and Doug Martin but it's hard to ignore the fact that they came into this home game having won 71 of their last 72 on the blue turf. The Broncos entered this game at 7-1 (and had climbed back into the polls at #19) having lost only their season opener at Michigan State. San Diego State came in at 6-3 having lost to Washington, San Jose State and Fresno State. Not many expected the Aztecs to come out of this one as the victor.

Biggest Upsets of 2012 (#11): Oregon State 10 Wisconsin 7

Written by Kevin on .

After having their scheduled opener against Nicholls State postponed, this was the season opener for Oregon State. The Beavers were coming off of a 3-9 season and facing the #13 Wisconsin Badgers who were coming off of an 11-3 season and a trip to the Rose Bowl. Oregon State did have home field advantage but not many thought they would stop Montee Ball and the Wisconsin rushing attack.

2013 Prospectus: Florida Gators

Written by Kevin on .

After going 7-6 in his first season, Will Muschamp certainly raised some questions. In year two, Muschamp improved to an impressive 11-2. Year three will be the most telling as Muschamp has now been through three recruiting cycles and a lot of the inherited talent has moved on. As impressive as the 11-2 season was, it ended on a down note with a 33-23 loss at the hands of former Florida defensive coordinator Charlie Strong and the Louisville Cardinals.

Updated NFL Mock Draft for 3/11

Written by Kris Zellner on .

Free agency goes down tomorrow at 4 PM EST so the needs could change drastically but right now this is what I see.

1. Kansas City Chiefs = Luke Joeckel OT Texas A&M

Sure they reupped with Branden Albert but he can slide to guard or even right tackle to replace Eric Winston so the Chiefs take the value here.

2. Jacksonville Jaguars = Sharrif Floyd DT Florida

The Jaguars have a lot of needs and the defensive line is at the top of the list even though they have drafted this area in the 1st round twice since 2008. One to watch here is Ezekial Ansah as supposedly they are really high on him.

How Good Was Aaron Murray in 2012?

Written by Kevin on .

I know we already talked about Aaron Murray once this week but I came across an interesting link and thought I would share it. I've recently started to follow Chris Brown's great site Smart Football. Occasionally Chris shoots out some links posts and today he made one that linked to a site called Football Perspective. In this link, Football Perspective took a look at the best passing seasons since 2005. Who do you think was the best QB in 2012 based on their criteria?

The Waiting is the Hardest Part

Written by Kevin on .

Last year I had a chance to interview West Virginia beat writer Mike Casazza on my podcast and I really thought the name of his book summed up college football to a tee. It's called "Waiting for the Fall" and that's what we are doing right now. There are some good parts of the off-season like National Signing Day, Spring Games and the start of fall practices but we are really all just sitting and waiting for that first kick-off of the college football season. I enjoy doing the previews that lead up to the first game but let's face it, we just want the first weekend to get here. With that being said, here's what we are waiting for in week one:

Gunner Kiel is on the Move Again

Written by Kevin on .

According to Irish Sports Daily, top prospect Gunner Kiel will transfer from Notre Dame after just one year of roaming the sideline. Notre Dame had a wildly successful 2012 that saw head coach Brian Kelly and his team way ahead of schedule as they posted a 12-0 regular season record before being pummeled in the National Championship Game by Alabama. A key factor in the transfer has to be the emergence of rising sophomore Everett Golson.
