Ranking the 2013 SEC RB Units

Written by Kevin on .

Last month we took a look at the best QB units in the SEC. Now it's time to turn our attention to a position that has a very long tradition of excellence in the conference. Herschel Walker, Bo Jackson, Emmitt Smith. You get the picture. Here is how I see the SEC RB groups heading into the 2013 season:

2013 Prospectus: LSU Tigers

Written by Kevin on .

Under Les Miles, the LSU Tigers have won double digit games in three straight seasons and six of eight total seasons since he has taken over as head coach. Last year, the Tigers finished the regular season at 10-2 with losses to Alabama and Florida and then lost their bowl game in a close one against Clemson. The three losses came by an average of just over four points per game.

Guest Spot on Three Point Stance Podcast

Written by Kevin on .

I've taken a short break this off-season from my own podcast but I do have some great plans for the podcast when I start doing my yearly pre-season previews and I'm sure you will see an off-season podcast pop up here and there. On Tuesday night, I was invited to talk a little college football with @RUFanJerry on the LeatherHeads of the Gridiron Three Point Stance podcast.

2013 Prospectus: Vanderbilt Commodores

Written by Kevin on .

Vanderbilt got off to the kind of start in 2012 that made some wonder if James Franklin had used smoke and mirrors in 2011. The Commodores dropped four of their first six with their only FBS win being a four point squeaker over Missouri. The schedule turned in the second half of the season and Vandy took full advantage as they ran the table winning seven straight games including victories over NC State, Ole Miss and Tennessee.

2013 Prospectus: Mississippi State Bulldogs

Written by Kevin on .

Have the Bulldogs gone as far as they can under Dan Mullen? Over the last three years, Mullen and his Bulldogs have averaged an 8-5 record and their best conference finish has been 4-4. Last year the Bulldogs went 0-4 against the Top 25 and 8-1 against everyone else.

2013 Prospectus: Ole Miss Rebels

Written by Kevin on .

Hugh Freeze was hired by Ole Miss in December of 2011 and ever since then it's been one big love affair between him and the Rebels fanbase. Freeze took the 2011 Ole Miss squad that gave up on Houston Nutt and went 2-11 and turned them around in one year to a 7-6 team that won their bowl game by 21 points. And then came the recruiting landslide. Ole Miss finished sixth in the Nation in our cumulative recruiting rankings and right now there is a ton of positive momentum in Oxford.

2013 Prospectus: Missouri Tigers

Written by Kevin on .

When Texas A&M and Missouri made the move to the SEC, the popular thought was that the Tigers had a better shot at being successful in 2012. We were wrong. The Aggies exploded and the Tigers struggled. But the Tigers weren't as bad as their 5-7 record would lead you to believe.

It's the off-season. Recruiting has come and gone, girlfriends have received well deserved scholarships and moms have gotten needed jobs. Now we wait until spring camp starts, follow the NFL draft and hope the players from our favorite schools use their time productively. Each week during the off-season I will take a look at my favorite college football links from the past week and also dip my big toe into pop culture.
